The writing had been on the wall every since the Vikings drafted a kicker in the 2018 NFL Draft, but today they make it official by releasing veteran Kai Forbath and officially naming rookie Daniel Carlson the starting kicker for the team.

Forbath signed with the Vikings part way through the 2016 season, kicked in 2017 and re-signed with the Vikings earlier this year. Despite connecting on 88.7% of his field goals with Minnesota, the Vikings drafted Kai's replacement and Forbath was left to mentor for a few months before getting cut today.

Meeting the press today, head coach Mike Zimmer praised Carlson saying that his most impressive attribute is his "leg strength, really strong leg. Been pretty accurate on the field goals."
